Fans of the original Tails can immediately establish the connection with Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter. Avor, the Warden of the Northern Wastes, was a challenging boss added in Tails of Iron: Bloody Whiskers. Fans believe the small archer who was with the big white rat is young Arlo. Now, it’s his turn to embark on an adventure to protect their domain from the Dark Wings.
The game presents itself as raising the stakes from its predecessors. Instead of frogs, the main enemies this time are bat creatures. Aside from that, it hosts a different cast of characters. The stages and bosses are predominantly new and refreshing despite being set in the same world. Besides being narrated by Doug Cockle, the unique art style ties the two Tails games together.
Another upgrade from its predecessor is it expands on the base-building aspect. Instead of Redgi’s armory and keep, you’re now in charge of the Northern Settlements. Still, some aspects would turn some players away. First is its increased difficulty level, comparable to Hollow Knight or Blasphemous. Another issue might be the story, which follows the same pattern as the first.
